Elevating the Concert Experience
Pre-concert Lectures with Dr. David Chalmers
GloriƦ Dei Cantores enriches the concert-goers’ experience, by offering an inspiring and informative lecture before each performance.
Dr. David Chalmers, organist and program annotator for the choir, shares his discoveries about the music featured in the concert program. Expounding on his written program notes, Dr. Chalmers gives background on the musical styles, particular insight into the composers’ lives, and ties the entire program together as he teaches about the relationships between the different style periods of the music. By alerting the audience to these mile posts and listening points in the music, Dr. Chalmers enables them to become more discerning listeners, and to come away with a deeper knowledge and enjoyment of the music and the composers they encountered through the concert.
Dr. Chalmers holds degrees from Westminster Choir College and the Eastman School of Music where he majored in organ performance and minored in music history. His particular interests are in 19th and early 20th century music and performing styles.
