There is such richness in the guidance given in the Music in Catholic Worship document: "Among the many signs and symbols used by the Church to celebrate its faith, music is of preeminent importance. Music should assist the assembled believers to express and share the gift of faith that is within them and to nourish and strengthen their interior commitment of faith. The quality of joy and enthusiasm which music adds to community worship cannot be gained in any other way. ... music can also unveil a dimension of meaning and feeling, a communication of ideas and intuitions which words alone cannot yield." (MCW 23-24) "We gather at Mass that we may hear and express our faith again in this assembly and, by expressing it, renew and deepen it." (MCW 1)
Dear Friends and Visitors:
The Ministry of Music at St. Thomas Aquinas offers opportunities for musical and spiritual growth as well as fellowship, education and cultural enrichment. At St. Thomas Aquinas we offer ensembles for all age levels, from children to seniors. Beyond providing leadership for the Sunday liturgies, the various groups sing and play for special programs in the church, school, through our Concert Series - Music and the Arts at Saint Thomas Aquinas, and throughout the community.
The musical traditions at St. Thomas Aquinas are built not only upon a multihued and historic Roman Catholic past, but on many customs that are indicative of the Southwest, and the physical attributes of this sizable Mission style structure. In addition to being the state's largest Roman Catholic Church, Saint Thomas Aquinas has an Elementary School from which are drawn the Trebles of our Children’s Choirs.
The Ministry of Music at St. Thomas Aquinas is on a graded level; This gives each child, teen, adult or senior an opportunity to serve God through the medium of music. The choirs function as servants to the assembly, enlivening and enriching the worship. They do this by supporting the congregational singing of hymns and the liturgy, and by presenting music relevant to the day and season.
Saint Thomas Aquinas is noted to have one of the finest acoustics in the metropolitan area and is home to Music and the Arts - a non-profit community arts organization, founded in 2005 at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church. Music and the Arts is designed to reach out to the local community with an eclectic program of sacred, classical, and popular music. In addition to presenting concerts, Music and the Arts also provides an educational series, free of charge, and supports the talents of local emerging young artists. Please visit www.musicandthearts.org for additional information about Music and the Arts at Saint Thomas Aquinas and browse our upcoming events.
It is my hope that you, your family, and friends will find some opportunity to serve Christ and His Church through the medium of music. If you have any questions or comments please contact the Office of Music Ministry.
Ad majorem Dei gloriam,
