The 75 voice treble choir is comprised of students from third through fifth grade who are enrolled at Saint Thomas Aquinas Grade School. The treble choir provides music once weekly at the Thursday 8:00 am School Mass. The treble choir also provides music once a month at the Sunday, 9:00 am, Family Mass. The Choir rehearses three days per week during the school day and is trained using RSCM (Royal School of Church Music) standards and Voice for Life.
Singing in a good choir is much more than a typical normal school activity. Here at St. Thomas Aquinas, choristers are introduced to the world of great music- from classic hymns to Renaissance motets, Bach in German, English anthems, Gregorian Chant, and 20th Century contemporary music. Great emphasis is given to music- reading skills, with each child receiving significant individual attention beginning in the first grade. With a strong parish and parental support, this program flourishes in discipline, consistency and excellence.
Since few children, especially boys, can envision the enjoyment and reward of a choir experience, parental initiative is critical when considering membership. Beyond our musical work together, we share many occasions of fun and fellowship. Lifelong friends will be made as choristers and as choir parents; carpools, sleepovers, day trips and parties, enriched by the wonder of making music together, encourage a bonding rarely found in other activities.
Children and their families will be profoundly engaged in the rich musical and spiritual environment of this parish. St. Thomas Aquinas offers to children a level of participation in its communal life that seeks to educate, inspire and nurture spiritual formation, thus extending its traditions of worship and music into the twenty-first century.
